The countdown is on for Hay's 150 Year Celebrations

With just over a week to go, the community is gearing up for our 150 Year Celebrations.

The celebrations will commence on Friday November 13, 2009 and will continue across the weekend.

“The loading of the 25 year time capsule at the Library on Friday night will herald the start of the festivities. “The time capsule will be filled with items which reflect the qualities and character of the Hay community and we are encouraging people to be part of this special event,” said Hay’s 150 Year Celebration Committee Chair Mrs Janet Low.

Envelopes can be purchased from Hay Shire Council’s Offices, the Visitor Information Centre and the Hay Library for $5 and $10. To assist you in deciding what to include in your envelope the Committee has prepared a Time Capsule Fact Sheet.

Saturday November 14 will be a day not to be missed with the Hay Veteran Vintage Motorcycle and Car Club hosting the Show and Shine at the pool between 9am – 12noon, the rededication of the Witcombe Fountain, followed by the street parade, party in the park, and fireworks finale at 9pm.

“Lachlan Street will come alive from 3.30pm on Saturday when over 65 floats will make their way from Lions Park to Hay Oval.  Float entries close on Tuesday November 10 so make sure you get your entry into the Visitor Information Centre”, Mrs Low added.

An actioned packed program has been planned for the Party in the Park which will commence with the official opening at 5.30pm following the street parade.

A variety of food stalls will be in operation to tempt your tastebuds whilst large scale outdoors games, giant jumping castle, inflatable slide, ferry boats, face painting, airbrush tattoos and mini concert will keep the children entertained.

Why not test your skill with a ride on the mechanical bull or sit back with a group of friends and enjoy the entertainment. At 9pm the skies over Hay will explode with a burst of colour in a fireworks spectacular.

Sunday will see the official launch of Hay’s three ARTback Long Paddock Sculptures at Busy Bend by Artist John Wooller. Take a stroll along the banks of the Murrumbidgee then relax with a free sausage sizzle at Sandy Point.

“The Committee encourages you to take this opportunity to join the events and activities, enjoy the festivities and reflect on our history “, Mrs Low said.

A series of commemorative merchandise including keyrings, stubby holders, wristbands and commemorative Port will be on sale over the weekend.
