Visitor Information Centre

The Hay Visitor Information Centre offers the traveller a range of facilities. 

These include:

  • A gazebo that seats up to twenty people, with tables, chairs and sink provided
  • Toilets open from 7am to 6pm
  • Disabled toilet open from 7am to 6pm
  • Parents Room
  • Ladies and Men's showers, for a gold coin donation, open 7am to 6pm
  • Filtered drinking water, for campers and caravanners
  • Bus, car, and caravan parking
  • Lawn area with picnic table
  • Local information and souvenirs
  • Regional and interstate information
  • Great country hospitality

The Centre opening hours are:

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

Saturday 9am to 2pm

Sunday 9am to 12noon

These hours may vary on Public Holidays. Closed Christmas Day.

The passion and legends of shearing

Shear Outback is an innovative new interpretive centre with interactive experiences for all ages, telling the story of Australia’s shearers.

  • Marvel at the new museum and the Shearers’ Hall of Fame.
  • Experience the smells, sights and sounds of the sheds.
  • Meet a real shearer, he’ll show you how it’s done!
  • Try and beat Jackie Howe’s legendary blade shearing record
  • Hang out in a shearer’s sling, try throwing a fleece!
  • See the historic Murray Downs woolshed.
  • Meet the animals, and watch the sheep dogs work.
  • Learn about shearing history and future technologies.
  • Enjoy the Shear Outback Café and retail shop.

Open 9am to 5pm daily
Shearing demonstrations are at 10:30am, 1pm and 3.30pm
Entry is $20 adult, $15 concession, $10 children, $45 family. Temporary exhibitions may incur an additional fee.
