Shear Outback

Shear Heritage, Shear Culture, Shear Fun

Visitors can experience the living and working conditions of the hardworking men and women who shaped the industry and learn about our shearing history and future technologies in the museum.

  • Entry fee is for 24 hour access to come and go as you please. You can explore the round up maze and homestead garden before heading to the historic Murray Downs Shed; meet the Shearer and experience the sights and sounds of a working wool shed. Relax in the café and visit our gift shop.
  • The following information is provided to assist you in organising your visit. There is some flexibility should your group desire access to the museum outside of normal trading hours and we ask that you call to discuss this if required. Shear Outback is easy to get around and the exhibition is self guiding. Organised groups may have access to a Shear Outback Volunteer guide at no additional charge if requested prior to visit. Groups should be on site at least 15 minutes prior to the shearing demonstration to allow for time to get to the shearing venue
  • Special needs: A wheel chair is available for use on site with disabled access to all areas
  • Shear Outback recommends that for a quality visit you should allow a minimum of one hour for the museum and Australian Shearers’ Hall of Fame and half an hour for the shearing demonstration in the Murray Down Shearing Shed.
  • In addition you should allow 15-20 minutes for smoko and 45 minutes for lunch.
